The president and CEO of the Gay and Lesbian Victory Fund and Institute will speak at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point this week.

Chuck Wolfe will talk about “The State of the LGBT Movement” at 4:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 10, in Room 221 of the Noel Fine Arts Center. A question and answer session will follow. The event is sponsored by the UW-Stevens Point Faculty and Staff Gay-Straight Alliance and is free and open to the public.

Wolfe has an extensive background in politics, issue advocacy and organizational development. He previously served as executive vice president and chief operating officer of the American Legacy Foundation, created as a result of a 46-state settlement with the tobacco industry. The foundation’s first employee, he initiated national tobacco control programs such as the “truth” advertising campaign.

The Gay and Lesbian Victory Fund and Institute is a nonpartisan organization that helps LGBT leaders win elections and serve effectively. Wolf served on the fund’s Board of Directors for four years prior to joining the staff. During his tenure as CEO, hundreds of openly gay candidates have been elected to public office.
