Young musicians from central Wisconsin will
present their first concert as members of the recently founded Central
Wisconsin Youth Symphony Orchestra on Dec. 14.
Both the junior and senior high school groups will
perform at 7 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 14, at Michelsen Hall in the University of
Wisconsin-Stevens Point Noel Fine Arts Center. The concert is free and open to
the public.
The Philharmonica, comprised of middle and junior
high school musicians, is directed by Stephen Wucherer, an orchestra teacher at
Oshkosh, Webster Stanley and Merrill schools. The ensemble will perform “Eine Kleine Nachtmusik” by
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, arranged by Carrie Lane Gruselle; “Egmont Overture” by
Ludwig van Beethoven, arranged by Richard Meyer; and “The Lord of the Rings -
The Fellowship of the Ring” by Howard Shore, arranged by Bob Cerulli.
The
Youth Symphony, comprised of high school musicians, is under the direction of Kurt
Van Tiem. He is the group’s founding music director and chair of the Music
Department at P. J. Jacobs Junior High in Stevens Point. This ensemble will
perform “Hoe-down”
from "Rodeo" by Aaron Copland, “There is a Rose in Flower Chorale –
Prelude” by Johannes Brahms with translation by Erich Leinsdorf, “Fugue In G
Minor” by J. S. Bach and arranged by Lucien Cailliet, “Military March No. 1” by
Franz Schubert and arranged by Douglas Stroud, “St. Paul's Suite for String
Orchestra” by Gustav Holst and Berceuse and Finale "Firebird Suite"
by Igor Stravinsky and arranged by Merle J. Isaac.
The Central Wisconsin Youth Symphony Orchestra

Aber Suzuki Center, UW-Stevens Point Continuing Education, Heid Music and
central Wisconsin music educators.
