Explore careers in physical sciences, math in UW-Stevens Point speaker series

​​Learn about a wide variety of career paths in the physical sciences and mathematics through a new speaker series at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point this spring semester.

“Career Paths in the Physical Sciences” will meet Monday evenings from 5-5:50 p.m. in room D102 of the Science Building at UW-Stevens Point, beginning Feb. 1. Interested community members, including high school teachers, students and parents, and university faculty and staff members may attend any or all of the colloquium’s 14 sessions free of charge.

Scheduled topics include:

·         Feb. 1: Introduction/Interdisciplinary science careers

·         Feb. 8: Mathematics and actuarial science

·         Feb. 15: Physical and human geography

·         Feb. 22: Geoscience and earth sciences

·         Feb. 29: Physics, materials and nanoscience

·         March 7: Physics/meteorology

·         March 14: Geospatial sciences and Geographic Information Systems

·         March 28: Teaching the physical sciences and math

·         April 4: Water sciences and hydrology

·         April 11: Computer information sciences

·         April 18: Chemistry, materials, nanoscience

·         April 25: Environmental chemistry

·         May 2: Environmental sciences

·         May 9: Wrap-up

 

The series will be led by Christopher P. Cirmo, dean of the College of Letters and Science. Cirmo has a background in biology, chemistry, environmental engineering, environmental science and hydrology.
