Design and Technology Alumni


​Our Design & Technology grads choose to directly enter the profession and compete in many markets. They are looked on favorably compared to peers who may have completed graduate study. Those of our grads who seek to continue their education are going to significant graduate programs and typically earn complete tuition waivers as well as stipends.

 Richard T. Ballering

Richard is currently Executive Director, Production for ABC Studios, where he is the production executive for late night series “Jimmy Kimmel Live” and oversees day to day operations of ABC Studios new technology, transportation, set inventory, asset management, and costume departments.

He has been with ABC Studios (fka Touchstone Television) for seven years during which time he has had the opportunity to oversee production on such series as The Knights of Prosperity, Scrubs, Less Than Perfect, Hope & Faith, In The Game, the ABC Micro Mini Series and over a dozen pilots.

Prior to getting involved in television Richard worked as a theatrical and special events stage manager for companies ranging from the Colorado Shakespeare Festival to Buena Vista Special Events. Richard earned his BA in Theatre from UWSP and his MFA in stage management from the University of California in Irvine. Richard currently lives with his wife and daughter in Los Angeles, CA. 

 Peter Windingstad

Peter Windingstad is currently the Design Director for VEE Corporation which is most famously known for producing the tour “Sesame Street Live!” In addition to working on the touring productions, Peter has designed a wide variety of projects for a wide variety of clients. Some recent projects have included “The Adventures of Mr. Potato Head” and “Smokey Bear and Woodsy Owl” traveling children’s museum exhibits, tours and fan fests for the NBA, museum exhibits aboard the USS Lexington in Corpus Christi, Texas, the “Kids Zone” at Miller Park in Milwaukee, a variety of sports and corporate Mascots, product launch for Kellogg, various trade show booths, corporate meetings, and yes, even the occasional theater production.

 Aaron Hubbard

 Stephen E. Rees

Stephen E. Rees is the recently retired Chair of the Department of Theatre and Dance at SUNY - Fredonia, and has been Technical Director since joining the faculty in 1982. He also formerly served as Resident Lighting Designer. He holds an M.F.A. in Technical Theatre Production earned at the University of Memphis. Prior to coming to Fredonia, he served in similar positions at the University of Georgia in Athens. Mr. Rees's training includes emphasis in scenery construction, lighting design and technology, plastics and metal working, and materials selection and utilization. He has attained certification as a Certified Rigger - Theatre through the Entertainment Technicians Certification Program of the ESTA - The Entertainment Services and Technology Association.

Outside the department he serves as a theatre consultant to area schools and community theatres, and has served as consultant on the lighting and rigging systems for the Fredonia Opera House. He has also worked as Technical Director and/or Production Coordinator for East Coast regional opera companies including Summer Opera Theatre Co of Washington, D.C., OPERADelaware in Wilmington, DE, and Compania Lirica Nacional in San Jose, Costa Rica.

 Denise Humphrey

Co-Director Reichhold Center of the Arts, St. Thomas, United States Virgin Islands. The Reichhold Center for the Arts is nestled within the lap of a natural valley whose mouth opens to the crystal blue waters of John Brewer's bay on the island of St. Thomas, United States Virgin Islands. This unique amphitheater of wood, limestone, copper, steel and concrete plays host to a wide range of concerts and performances, from Ray Charles to the Moscow Ballet, catering to our mission of enriching the cultural and social life of the people of the Virgin Islands.

 Amy P. Ferrara

Amy P. Ferrara, Design & Technology, 1993, is an Event Manager for Cal Performances at the University of California, Berkeley. Cal Performances is one of the world's largest presenters of the performing arts including all forms of music, dance and theater. As an Event Manager, Amy is responsible for advancing all production and artistic needs of the performers and touring companies including audio, lighting, audio/visual, merchandise, hospitality & catering, transportation, overall stage management and any day-of show needs. Favorite artists and productions have included Circus Oz, Angelique Kidjo, Sonny Rollins, Laurie Anderson, NPR's "Wait, Wait, Don't Tell Me," and the dance companies of Alvin Ailey, Pina Bausch, and Merce Cunningham, to name a few.

Amy is also primarily responsible for the operation and management of the historic William Randolph Hearst Greek Theatre on the Berkeley campus which opened in 1903. The theatre is host to numerous campus events and graduations, as well as popular music concerts throughout the summer. Favorites here have included R.E.M., Steely Dan, Dolly Parton, Beastie Boys, Dave Matthews Band and His Holiness the Dalai Lama.

 Lindsay Jones

Lindsay has assistant designed the pre-mass celebration for the Papal visit with Tony nominated designer Gregory Gale (Cyrano de Bergerac) and coordinated costumes for the new ballet “Go In Grace” for Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre. She is currently assistant designing with four time Tony award winner Catherine Zuber (South Pacific, Coast of Utopia, Light in the Piazza, Awake and Sing!). Recent and upcoming shows with Catherine include; A Man for All Seasons (Roundabout), Farragut North (Atlantic Theatre Co), Prayer for My Enemy (Playwrights Horizons), and The Bridge Project (BAM).

 Micah Rahn

Lighting System Designer at Fisher Dachs Associates, a theatre planning and design firm headed by Jules Fisher and Joshua Dachs. Micah comes to FDA with over 10 years of lighting system and technical theatre experience. He brings with him expertise in entertainment and architectural control systems, dimming systems, as well as a unique understanding of the systems integration and construction process. Prior to joining FDA, Micah worked for a leading dimming and controls manufacturer, providing lighting systems design, control training, systems budgeting, and project coordination. Additionally, Micah assisted and collaborated with renowned designers, architects, and theatre consultants on such projects as the renovation and expansion of Alice Tully Hall and the Juilliard School at Lincoln Center in New York; Ithaca College's Dillingham Center; and the Experimental Media Performing Arts Center at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, NY.

 Jason Fassl

Designs this season include productions for The Milwaukee Ballet (PURE DANCE, INNOVATIVE MOTION), Peninsula Players (COMIC POTENTIAL, PANIC), Next Act Theatre (PURGATORIO, MARY'S WEDDING), Milwaukee Chamber Theatre (AROUND THE WORLD IN 80 DAYS), Children's Theater of Madison (A CHRISTMAS CAROL), First Stage Children's Theatre - artistic associate (ALEXANDER AND THE T.H.N.G.V.B.D., THE WIZ, THIEF LORD), Renaissance Theaterworks - resident designer (AMERICAN FIESTA, BLACKBIRD, THE SMELL OF THE KILL), and The Fireside - resident designer (THOSE FAB. 50's & 60's, JOSEPH, CINDERELLA). Previous seasons include designs for The Milwaukee Repertory Theatre, American Players Theatre, The Madison Repertory Theatre, Next Theatre Company, Promethean Theatre Company, Lawrence University Opera, The Milwaukee Shakespeare Company, Bialystock and Bloom, and many others. Jason toured with The Magic of David Copperfield, the national tour of The Music Man and has served as a head sound and lighting technician onboard Royal Caribbean International's MS Monarch and MS Vision of the Seas. In addition to his theatrical work, Jason has extensive experience designing lights for the corporate world including PartyLite, The Pampered Chef, Kawasaki, Northwestern Mutual, Johnson Controls, Caterpillar, and Pierce Manufacturing. He has also collaborated with Rick Wilcox Magic Theater, Terror on the Fox, and Clearwing Productions. Jason holds a BFA from the University of Wisconsin - Stevens Point.

 Andrew Bevacqua

 Tristan Crist

Tristan has combined his technical theatre and performance experience to create an exciting career as an illusionist. He is currently performing theatrical magic shows for corporate functions and in performance venues throughout the Midwest. Tristan also tours the nation with the Pendragons as their technical director and lighting designer. This has allowed him to design in a large variety of venues including casinos, hotel ballrooms and historic theatres.

 Samantha Fromm

Currently crafts artisan/milliner/dyer at the Guthrie Theatre. Formerly resident costumer for the Honolulu Theatre for Youth. MFA in costume design from Rutgers University.

 Tony Galaska

Tony Galaska received his M.F.A. in Lighting from Purdue University, a B.F.A. from the University of Wisconsin- Stevens Point, and an A.A from the University of Wisconsin Waukesha. He has designed for The Contemporary American Theatre Festival, The Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey, The Texas Shakespeare Theatre Festival, and in NYC for a variety of theatre companies such as Toy Box Theatre Company, The Gallery Players, Wings Theatre Company, Metropolitan Playhouse, and New Perspectives Theatre Company.  Professor Galaska has received faculty excellence awards from the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival for his lighting design of The Cook, Spring Awakening, The Cherry Orchard, and The House of the Sprits.  Tony is currently the Vice Chair of Design, Technology, and Management for the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival, Region IV.


 Kenneth J. Martin

Kenneth J. Martin is a Scenic and Lighting Designer and Chair of the Department of Theatre at Coastal Carolina University. Ken has worked in the professional theatre for over 25 years. As a member of United Scenic Artists, his design work has been seen at, among others, The Sacramento Theatre Company, Surflight Theatre in New Jersey, CATCo and The Ensemble Theatre in Ohio, Theatre by the Sea in Rhode Island and the Florida Repertory Theatre. In the academic arena, Ken has served in a variety of capacities for the United States Institute for Theatre Technology and is currently the Exhibit Tour Coordinator for the USA exhibit for the 2011 Prague Quadrennial.

Chair of the Department of Drama at the University of Arkansas.  Author of Starting Your Career as a Theatrical Designer.

 Owen Reynolds

Joined the Fine Arts faculty of Sante Fe College in 2003. Owen has also completed the Master of Fine Arts program at Wayne State University in Detroit Michigan. While attending graduate school he was a member of the professional Hilbery Repertory Theatre Company. Before joining SFC, Mr. Reynolds spent two years with University of Massachusetts- Amherst as faculty Technical Director.

Current and recent memberships include: United States Institute for Theatre Technology (USITT), South Eastern Theatre Conference (SETC), North Eastern Theatre conference (NETC), Wisconsin Theatre Festival, American College Theatre Festival (KC-ACTF), American Welding Society.

 Chris Dunham

Christopher R. Dunham, M.F.A., is the Assistant Professor of Theatre Design and Technology for the Department of Theatre Arts and Technical Director for the Edgewood College Theatre. He received his B.F.A. from the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point and his MFA from Purdue University. 

He has worked professionally with Theatre Tuscaloosa, The Alabama Shakespeare Festival, Purdue University, CTM, and TAPIT/New Works among others. 

When he's not working or with his family he is usually found fixing up his house or running calls with the Lauderdale La Grange Fire Department.


 Deni Holl

Scenic Artist / Set Painter / Decorative Painter / Faux Finisher / Ornamental Plasterer at a Variety of Venues in the US. Deni has earned several craftsmanship awards for her restoration work as an ornamental plasterer at the Eisenhower Executive Office Building on the White House grounds in Washington D.C. As a Scenic Artist and Decorative Painter, she has worked on projects for Universal Studios, The Shakespeare Theatre, Busch Gardens, Sea World, the U.S. Department of Justice and a host of private commissions.

 Nathan Rohrer

Nathan R. Rohrer has been a successful costume designer in Chicago since 2007, where his costume designs have been seen in theatre and dance productions citywide. He has worked with countless Chicago companies, having designed for Hubbard Street Dance Chicago, River North Chicago Dance, The New Colony, Lifeline Theatre, Emerald City Theatre, and he has also worked with Chicago Shakespeare Theatre, Marriott-Lincolnshire Theatre, Northwestern University, and countless other performing arts entities nationwide. His costume renderings have been exhibited and sold in art galleries, and have been featured in Time Out Chicago. In addition to working as a Freelance costume designer, Nathan is the Costume Design Instructor and Costume Shop Manager at the University of Chicago. He is also costume designer-in-residence at both Thodos Dance Chicago and Chicago Repertory Ballet, where he is a founding member.

 Lydia Graboski-Bauer

Lydia Graboski-Bauer is a costume designer for film, television, theater, and events in Los Angeles, California.  Lydia has designed costumes for major networks such as TLC, Syfy, Adult Swim, HGTV, and for Funny Or Die.  She recently completed filming 35 episodes of the hit TLC show “Sex Sent Me to the ER” which receives about 1.5 million viewers per episode.  Lydia has worked with actors and such as Anna Paquin, Christopher Meloni, Michael Ian Black, Casey Wilson, Kristen Schaal, and Tony Hawk. 

In 2012-2013 Lydia worked as the wardrobe designer and wardrobe manager for the Las Vegas Chippendales World Tour, traveling to over 20 countries in Europe and Asia. 

Before moving to Los Angeles Lydia received a full scholarship to attend Southern Methodist University in Dallas, TX where she graduated in 2011 with her MFA in stage design. While in graduate school she worked at the La Jolla Playhouse, the Dallas Theater Center, and assisted six time Tony Award winning costume designer William Ivey Long. Lydia earned her BA in theater from UWSP in 2008.

 Chris Pheiffer

Christopher Pheiffer is a Technical Director, Technical Manager, and Draftsman for Themed Entertainment, Theatre, and Specialized Installations. Chris earned his BFA in Theatrical Design and Technology with an emphasis in Lighting Design from the University of Wisconsin- Stevens Point in 2009, as well as an MFA in Theatre Technical Direction and Design from California Institute of the Arts in 2014. In between earning his BFA and MFA, Chris acted as Technical Director and Scene Shop Manager for the UW-Stevens Point Theatre and Dance Department. While attending the California Institute of the Arts, Chris continued to expand and refine his skills by working as an intern at Walt Disney Imagineering in Creative Entertainment, as well as freelance Technical Design work for Universal Studios and Nike.

Upon graduation from CalArts in 2014, Chris was hired by On Track themes, Inc.—a show production and technical design firm in the themed entertainment industry—and is currently employed there as a Technical Director.
