UWSP Course Equivalents:
There are a variety of classes at Macquarie University approved for UWSP course credit.  This list does change, but the most recent chart can be accessed HERE.

 For students who want to experience life in the "the land down under" with its endless beaches, unique flora/fauna, and the rustic Outback. Known for its famous Opera House, Harbour Bridge, and Bondi Beach, Sydney is a world-class city—and an excellent base for studying Australia and the South Pacific. Your host, Macquarie University enjoys a worldwide reputation for academic excellence and diversity. Internships can be arranged and students may also participate in a certificate program in Global Leadership.

Standard Application Deadlines: December 1 for the following fall semester and April 1 for the following spring term, although late applications are sometimes taken. Please check with the International Programs Office for information on available positions.

Eligibility

Sophomores, juniors, and seniors from all disciplines. Preference is given to upperclassmen with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above.  Academic fit, maturity, motivation, and preparation are important. Attendance at orientation meetings is required.

Cost Includes:

  • 20 week academic program
  • Room and board in  Sydney/North Ryde (Our cost estimates are made using the most economical of the housing options; we find the standard offering to be of high quality and at, or above, the standards at UWSP.)
  • UWSP fulltime tuition for Wisconsin Residents; Minnesota students qualify for reciprocity; (surcharge for other out-of-staters is only $1000)
  • Australian insurance, library access, internship and service learning opportunities, club access, airport transfers, orientation week, etc.
  • UW-System mandatory health/travel insurance


**Plan your budget to cover passport and visa (currently over $500 for Australian visa), airfare, personal break expenses, and class fees for certain courses.

Participants who opt for the GLOBAL LEADERSHIP SYMPOSIUM pay an additional $550 (Australian Dollars) to participate. Details can be had at: www.international.mq.edu.au/glp

Chicago to Sydney and return.


Classes

Select courses from a wide variety of subject areas while remaining enrolled as a UWSP student. You will be fully integrated into the normal semester courses at Macquarie University—but an important part of your pre-departure preparation is to work with the UWSP International Programs office to secure UWSP course and credit approvals. Courses in this program may qualify to meet major or minor degree requirements. Contact the International Programs Office to work out your course plan options.

For a list of the undergraduate courses available please click here. In Australia "courses" refers to "majors" and "units" corresponds to "courses" at UWSP.

Participants may also chose to do a for-credit internship in selected fields.  These are 10-20 hours-per-week placements in areas such as public relations, film, sustainable resources, law, computing, commerce, etc.

Students studying in Sydney through UWSP should NOT register directly with Macquarie University unless and until directed to do so by the UWSP International Programs Office. None-the-less, it is VERY helpful to peruse the various Macquarie webs sites and brochures for information on Sydney and Macquarie University itself.  Here is a good sampling of you:
