Welcome to the Department of Foreign
Languages!
Foreign languages have been offered at Stevens Point since the founding of
the Stevens Point Normal School in 1894. The languages you can learn on campus
or through distance learning include Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Hmong,
Japanese, Russian, and Spanish. We offer majors and minors in French, German and
Spanish. The program in Teaching English as a Second Language is also housed in
our department. In addition, our teacher education program includes French,
German, Spanish, and English as a Second Language. Finally, we offer a minor in
Comparative Literature
UW-Stevens Point's excellence is based on the emphasis placed on helping students
acquire proficiency in language and culture and providing them with
opportunities to live and study in the countries and regions of the world where
the language and culture can be found. In cooperation with the Office of
International Programs, we offer
semester long language immersion programs in Caen (France), Marburg (Germany) and
Valladolid
(Spain). Students of Spanish may also choose the summer program in Oaxaca
(Mexico).
