DESCRIPTION OF THE UWSP WISCONSIN COVENANT SCHOLARS PROGRAM

Scholars at UWSP benefit from being a Wisconsin Covenant Scholar in two ways:

1.       Scholars receive a financial aid package to help make college affordable.

All Wisconsin Covenant Scholars, regardless of need will receive a Wisconsin Covenant Scholars Grant and those Scholars who demonstrate financial need can receive additional Wisconsin Covenant Scholar Grants and Wisconsin Covenant Foundation Grant dollars.
2.       Scholars are assigned an advisor who will identify potential concerns that could lead to early attrition and will intervene to address those concerns.

Wisconsin Covenant Scholars will be contacted early in their first semester and will be given the opportunity to meet with the staff from the UWSP Wisconsin Covenant office.  Students will participate in two strategies intended to increase retention through graduation:  an early alert system whereby the academic and social concerns of Scholars are identified and an incentive program geared to increase early integration into the campus community.  Through the use of a series of assessments and discussions, the Scholar and the Wisconsin Covenant Scholars Program staff will identify any academic, financial, social, personal or emotional concerns that may impede the Scholar’s retention at UWSP.  Depending on the particular needs of the Scholar, students will be guided in one on four advising directions.   Next, Scholars participate in the UWSP WI Covenant Card incentive program.  This program is designed to encourage Scholars to become active participants in the UWSP campus community by engaging in academic and social activities.
