STEM Career Day Presenter Information

Welcome interested presenters! This page will provide information on how to be a presenter for the STEM Career Day events at UW-Stevens Point.  For an overview of the two programs: click here

General Information

There are currently two STEM Career Day events, one in November for boys and another in February for girls.  Both events cater to students in 7th and 8th grade.  Each event includes professionals from a variety of STEM careers.
Presenters include faculty and staff from UW-Stevens Point and professionals from off campus organizations.

Presenters are asked to explain their career choice, the educational and career tracks they chose, and what they enjoy about their career.  Workshops should provide a fun, hands-on activity showcasing one or more aspects of their career.  Workshops should be age appropriate and contain modern content.

Presenters need to submit a workshop proposal form by the date specified below. After all proposals have been received, the program is advertized to the public online.  Schools and individuals will pre-register for the event up to one month prior to the event date.

The program registration system is first come, first served and depending on when schools register, students may be in your workshop whether they want to be or not. From the presenter's perspective, it's extremely important to have an attractive workshop with an engaging presentation.  So, if they didn't get what they wanted they would be in a workshop which was interesting and fun.

Available Workshop Times

Each event has three, one-hour workshop.  We require 17-23 workshops in each time slot.  More workshops are needed for the February event as this is typically a larger event.

Helpful Resources

Attracting Students to Your Workshop

Catchy titles will bring the highest enrollments. You are encouraged to create fun titles using humor or relating your workshop to things students are in to such as in music, books, TV, or movies and have age appropriate material.    Difficult words and long titles are discouraged.  When considering a title, apply the 2 second rule. Does your content come accross to the recipient in 2 seconds?  It should if the recipient selects workshops only based on the title.
Additionally, it is important to describe your activity as something fun and to indicate what the students will learn or gain from the workshop.
